Medieval Jewelry Basic Information

Among the antique jewelry cultures include the medieval artifacts with captivating facts of the twelfth and fourteenth century histories and they still are preferred now. The pieces made during twelfth were only polished and the perfect jewelers of those days learnt to cut the ornaments in cute designs during the fourteenth century. Just like the ancient jewelry cultural believes, the medieval jewelry had deep meanings to the wearers such as magical powers of protection.

The artisans of that era used such precious gems as rubies, emeralds, sapphires, diamonds and pearls to make their jewelry. Other partly used gems included the opals, peridots, corals, onyx, amethysts, amber, garnets, and turquoise. Hottest medieval jewels then included the brooches and clutches and belts styled with metal fittings while the buttons were decorative accessories to the robes and gowns.

These early jewelers also used metals such as gold, silver, copper and pewter alone or in combination with glossy gems to make lovely such jewelry as earrings and pendants of varying sizes and beauty. Such other luxury accessories such crowns, headbands or tiara were made of pearl gems. More to the history of medieval jewelry were the significant connotations attached to all these fine jewelry that had a direct correlation with the medieval language of signs.
